A few years ago in 2010, I started sketching out an idea for a new book, it would be a "post-apocalyptic" adventure story set in the near future about a boy and his family surviving in the aftermath of a terrible global disaster. A "what if?" sort of adventure you might say. I began to look for inspiration from famous biblical characters and stories, and the one story that I kept coming back to, is the old testament story of Caleb. Caleb demonstrated courage at a time, when all others around him had given up hope. His courage was based on faith in the Lord to help him. I also drew some parallels in my planning process from the biblical character of Joseph. Joseph had visions or dreams of events that would later come to pass, although he struggled at first with interpreting those dreams or visions, later on he became quite skilled with his gift. Hence, my character of Caleb Elgin
has a little of both qualities. He is a boy with a god given gift of dreams, visions and prophecy as well as faith in God leading his people in a time of great uncertainty. At the beginning of the story - "The Great Cataclysm" as Caleb and his family call it, is the catalyst that sets forth a long chain of events that eventually leads Caleb and his family, as they return to their old homestead in Northern Virginia, near the city of Manassas. This is where the tales of Caleb Elgin begin...
I hope you enjoy the read... the complete e-reader story will be available soon as a Kindle e-reader on Amazon.com's Kindle website, as well as an earlier story of mine, "The Thompson Sphere."
Enjoy!
